DAVIDS BOOKED FOR JUNE 26THGrover Cleveland Alexander Among Stars With Club.Continuing their policy of offering attractive exhibition programs in addition to their regular Wis-consin-Illinois league games, the Racine Belles have booked the colorful House of David team for a I night game at Horlick's Athletic i field on Tuesday, June 26. The bearded boys have assembled one I of the strongest clubs to be sent out j from the colony in recent years and should offer high class competition to the fast stepping Racine team. In a letter to Harry Cohen, sponsor of the Belles Manager Ray L. Doan of the Davids reveals that not only does his team carry lighting equipment cap able of brightly illuminating any park in which it plays, but also it is offering this year something entirely new in the way of entertainment.Offer New Feature.For years the House of David teams have been noted for their famous pepper game. Now they offer in addition to first class baseball and the pepper game, two innings of donkey baseball! This program precedes the regulation nine inning game and is played as follows:Outfielders and infielders are mounted on donkeys of various colors and also varying speeds. When the batter hits the ball, he then jumps on n donkey in an effort to make first base. The outfielder o»* infielder goes after the ball on his donkey and is not allowed to get off the beast until he reaches the ball.In the meantime the baserunne** is attempting to get his steed to first base and on around the paths. The game is very exciting and beyond a doubt the greatest novelty ever introduced into the national pastime. The donkeys are well trained in the sport. Some of them prove obdurate and stop to nibble grass on the way to first base. Others start almost with the crack of the bat and round the bases.Heading the roster of the House of Davids is a former major league battery consisting of Grover Cleveland Alexander and Farl ’’Oil” Smith, formerly with the New York Giants. Smith is the best catcher the Davids have ever had on their roster. Alexander needs no introduction. Others on the pitching staff include Melter, Laufer, Wier-man and Walsh. Laufer wilbbe remembered for his performances here with the Milwaukee Oils in the Wisconsin State league in 19 30.Capable players, all of them good stickers and fine fielders with strong throwing vms, complete the roster of the bearded nine.Manager Eddie Stumpf plans to use his regular lineup for the game under the lights.
