BASE BALL ITEMS.The Second (iame—'The Juniata* the Victor?.From last Saturday’s Home Dane. The second game of the championship series was played in this city this afternoon►ami resulted in a defeat for the city clubby ^a score of 10 to G. flames between theseclubs always draw large^crowds in this city and this game was no exception, thegrounds being well filled. Mr. Kinkead, ofllollidaysburg umpired, and performed bis 11duties very satisfactorily. The game was avery easy one for the city club to win, as F7they lead for six innings ; after that they awere completely outbatted by their opponents, who by strong batting got in threeruns in the sixth and four in the eighth1thereby winning the game. The only ex- ! Fcuse that could be advanced by the city club is the fact that Baker’s bauds are in sibad condition, having been submitted to a e'leeching operation yesterday, and bis pby- 1*sician advising him not to play. This maybe, and indeed as it was necessary to stop rlt;the game Several times on account of his j bband paining it is very plausible; but theyifailed to bat in the last innings when itwas most needed] to save fthe game. Onthe Juniata side Jackson played finely atshort stop, while Rock probably won the j a]game by making a very difficult one hand11 y catch and double 11 y in the last inning when there were two on bases and none out.a’In the lirst inning, after Fisher had got fa base, l’helan sent the longest ball ever j T struck on the grounds, making home run.(hi the other side, Jackson brought in d ‘ Kevs, but did not reach home himself. bI IIn the second inning F. Vaughn and tt r Flanigan got in, Flack and Bradley going out, the Juniatas not scoring. ja:oThe third inning the Juniata shouldhave been whitewashed, as Gifford was the► * ionly man who got on bases and lie was al-lowed to get in by poor fielding at right field and third base. On the other si leanother run was added by Fisher gettingKsinchome on Vaughn’s bat.In the fourth neither side reached firsta1’IS h iSe, and the score stood five to two in ! favor of the city club. In the fifth inning to M. C. got to basesllt;easy, but a nice double play by Jackson,r taking 11 y and fielding to first, preventedmore than one run being scored. The vis-r itors were again blanked after two men hadreached hast s. The citv club now led bvbdc1.a score of six to two, but after this tin*tallies were turned, the visitors battingeTheavily and the Lome club failing entirelyiu that respeet. In the sixth inning the eitv club failed1to score, being retired in succession. The *visitors on the other hand batted withreat force, ihilslev, Gifford and Molloy 0•ofscoring three runs for their side. aIn the seventh inning the M. C. fared i oilbetter than in the sixtli, while their oppo- ^ nents scored again where an easv chancey had been given for , blank. Bradlev tooka nice llv in this inning, but made a badw overthrow to first, giving the runner third,e11li-he afterwards getting home.aIn the eighth inning the Mountain Cityagain failed to score, going out at first on a the weakest kind of hits. This left thecagame a tie, each .-ide having scored six runs. The Juniatas went in determined to1make a spurt and they did it. Their bat-11 ting in this inning was splendid, and re-1suited in Balsley, Keys, Jackson and Rocks!sscoring and winning the game, both sidesc
