Shewbridge Field SetsTop Sports Bill for Sunday'DONKEY BALL’ ONFOR TWO DAYSSportsmen May A.C* to Battle Monroe Fox TeamDonkey Ball,” a strictly American pastime nobody has yet found an excuse for inventing but one that everybody finds highly amusing, will be played tonight and tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in the May A.C. field, 69th and Aberdeen sts., with the Sportsmen May A.C. crossing jackasses with the Monroe Fox team.None of the players on either team have ever ridden donkeys in a baseball game before, but the score in that direction is offset by the fact that none of the donkeys that will be used have ever carried any members of either team. The donkeys to be used belong to Ralph Miller, who bills them as the original baseball jackasses. The animals have played more than 1,000 games in 16 of the Mid-dlewestern states and have appeared from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada in the six seasons since the sport was introduced. In donkey ball, all players except the pitcher and catcher ride mules. When the batter gets a hit he must mount his donkey and ride around the bases in proper order— if he* finds he can persuade the donkey to see eye to eye with him in the matter. There are no strikeouts or walks and all fielders must ride to within a step of the ball before dismounting. They must remount before throwing the ball.Depot Taverns Set Pace in Kershaw Field LoopDefending the crown first captured last season, the Depot Taverns are setting the pace in the Kershaw Playground Softball league with two victories in the first week of play.Last week the leaders routed the Monroe Fox aggregation by a score of 12 to 5 and then swamped the Mel and Ott Collins team Wednesday in a one-sided game, 16 to 2.The best game of the week was played Friday night when the Varsity Billiards edged out the Gran-aias, 11 to 8.
