TO DEDICATE NEWBASEBALL PLANT SUNDAY, JULY 3RDIBaseball will make its bid as Brainerd’s major summer sport early next month when the first of a colorful array of powerful clubs will invade this city following the inauguration and dedication of the new baseball plant July 3rd when a strong Duluth team boasting of a colored House of David battery will cavort on the local diamond.Bolstered by the return of Ted Franks, Gustavus Adolphus college hurler, the city team is fast being moulded into a well balanced organization. And, from the array of ( teams that will oppose them in late j season games the team will have i to be on edge.Following the invasion of the Duluth team, which is being tentatively scheduled for July 4th also, the city team will face such opposition as the nationally famous Gil-kerson’s Union Giants, a fast colored nine; the Decatur, 111., Red j Sox; the bewhiskered House of David outfit; the Bohn Refrigerating! company team, St. Paul, last year’s state champions; Big Lake, and several Minneapolis teams.With such a colorful array of teams in prospect, Brainerd baseball fans are assured of one of the outstanding seasons in the way of visiting teams this community has ever experienced.Manager Marvin Nutting, in j booking these games tentatively, said that the city team is fast rounding to shape and that when the regular season swings into full sway the team will represent perhaps the best collection of players ever assembled among semi-pro players in the section.
