B's Lead Way in Shaffer's 'Most-Trophied' Track Season With Honors For ManyCoach Lov/ell Todd and Coach Don McCauley came thru with a track team that conquered more trophies than any other Shafter squad of the past.The honors came largely th^I the B class entrants but the A’s and the C’s also garnered a few prizes. Leroy Moser, the valley’s fastest dashman in the B class picked up the top medals in both the 100 and 200 yard events in practically every meet and anchored the relay team that also cleaned up on the honors.Garry Wcyand, and Ken Smith, kept leading the way for hurdle honors during the season while Booster and Ed Ellis, Dave Muir, Jim Engle, Don Broom, Dave Cot-son with a 4 to 0 loss at Lomoorc.Six Seniors and nine Juniors made up the Shafter squad. Those playing their last game for the Generals were John Thompson, RUdy Prendez.Danny Contreras, Hugh Mouser and Bill Higbec. Returning next year will be George Larson and Louis Flores, pitching; Robert Taylor, Harold Gladden, Glenn Morris, and Bob Goossen, infielders; Fred Leonard, Jim Rice, and i Don Bender, outfielders.Glenn's Rat LeadsGlenn Morris lead the Shafter 1 swingers with a .333 average. Jesse also kept things going in the pole vault (set some new records), and other dashes. Obie Hamlin, Bruce Epp, and Russell , Harden, were also instrumental in giving the B’s their outstanding record.The C Class relay team generated a new school record at the , Valley Meet (unofficial) but were still third behind Bakersfield and' Fresno. Leading point getters for the C’s were Woody Wilson in the high jump and pole vault, Jimmy Broom in fhe same events. Charles Hood in the weight events, and the relay team of Alex Prendez, Cruz Sabedra, Shirley Fox, and Larry Mouser.The coaches make a point of the fact that a major factor of the success of the track team was the number of boys who were will* fng to come out for the sport and give competition for those who\ were able to go on to win.Others out for track were Lpr-ry Banks.
