CATHEDRAL PARTYENJOYED PICNIC ANDSPORTS, THURSDAYNEARLY 400 JOURNEYED TO FOUR PATHS BY TRAIN. ALPHA BAND IN ATTENDANCE!A party of close upon four-hundred chiidren of the Holy Trinity Cathedral Sunday School accompanied by some parents and friends left Kingston by first train (7.20 o'clock) on Thursday morning last for Four Paths where they revelled in a Picnic and Sports day. the first such to be held. The Alpha Band accompanied the party, and did full justice to themselves.The presence on the sports field ol the veteran sports referee, Rev. Fr. J. K. Countie. accompanied by Fr. O'Lalor and Fr, Ballou, who had joined the party later in the day gave an oftieial touch. Cricket, football, volley-ball, etc., were also played during the time allotted for ports.The function was ably carried through by the Rev. Fr. Becker, Moderator of the Catholic Young Men’s Sodality, Rev. Fr. J. O’Keefe, Director of the Cathedral Sunday School, Rev. Fr. Armitage, also of the Cathedral Sunday School, members of the C.Y.M.S. and the Sunday School teachers.The arrangements went through without a hitch, and indeed so smoothly did proceedings move that parents could not withhold expressions of satisfaction. So well were plans perfected that the First Aid Emergency Officer whom the management had detailed for duty had nothing whatever to do for the whole day. Indeed he actually put aside his ki’ and joined heartily in the great fun.On the way down, and on the return trip the Band contributed its quota to the singing of the children, and holiday people who gathered at the Stations on the way enjoyed a surprise treat. Four Paths was reached at 9.05 o’clockand the party proceeded to theproperty of Mr. A. Lawson, which was kindly loaned for the occasion. Refreshments were served, andthen the preparation for the firstsession of sports.FROM 5 TO 55The age-limit ranged from tots of 5 years of age to men and women, some of them about to see the evening of their day. Most interesting of the competitions was a three-legged race (open)—and avery close runner-up in popularityif not excitement was a race for children under 8 years of age. The tug-o-war had a place of its own, and the determined efforts of the competing teams brought out forcefully the moral—If at first you don't succeed—try, try, try again.
