The weigh station closed at 1 p.m. Sunday.It went really well, tournament chairman Mike Swanseysaid. This is only the second year and it's grown from last year. We had about 120 fishermen enter and that was up from last year. We want to see larger growth for next year's tournament.Board members Ron Brazil and Margaret Tomlinson helped organize the tournament and are hoping to help the event prosper in future years by getting the word out through multiple avenues. They will help organize a subcommittee later in the summer to make plans for advertising the tournament.It was a lot easier than last year, Brazil said. All the money we collected goes to charity. Those charities will be selected later.The event drew numerous sponsorships from local businesses, Tomlinson said, which donated many of the door prizes. In all, approximately $3,000 was raised over the two-day tournament.Next year, we want to get some national sponsors, Tomlinson said.With numerous fishing tournaments in the area annually, Swansey said the focus for the ABC tournament is on gradual growth. He believes the camaraderie among the fishermen will help that process, as more anglers tell their friends aboutthe event.It was six weeks of work for a two-day show, Swansey said.The organizers of this year's tournament have set asicle the first weekend in June for the 2(X)6 event and hope to hold it at the same time every year.Matt Taster is a sports reporter for The Facts.
