CAHA brass namedVANCOUVER (CP) - Bob Nicholson of Victoria has been named vice-president of technical operations by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association in a major restructuring of the development department, it was announced Monday.Nicholson, technical director of the B.C. Amateur Hockey Association for nine years, confirmed the appointment by telephone. The announcement was made in Ottawa by association president Murray Costello.The association also named Pat Reid of Ottawa as vice-president of high performance. Reid has been a senior technical consultant with Sport Canada for 15 years.Nicholson and Reid were hired after the departure this spring of association vice-president Dennis McDonald. He accepted a similar post with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League.The dual appointment was necessary because of the need for a stronger delivery system of domestic programs, combined with the growing involvement of international hockey, the association said in a news release.Nicholson, 36, who played junior hockey in Penticton, B.C., has worked on several committees established by the association’s Hockey Development Council. He worked closely with the association’s Program of Excellence and the Canada Winter Games.Reid, 40, was manager of the Best Ever Winter Pfogram at Sport Canada for six years. He also was the federal government’s sport consultant to both the association and Hockey Canada for nine years.He is a former Olympic track and field coach and an active lecturer for the International Amateur Athletics Federation.The appointments are effective July I.
