MelNTYREMenasha—what a whale ofa difference a lew whiskers make!Several hundred’ Menasha and Fox Kiver valley baseball fans gathered here last night to see the Menasha Falcons take a 14 and 2 trimming from the House o£ David baseball team under the management of Grover Cleveland Alexander, one time member of the Chicago Cubs and the St Douis Cardinals.The House of David boy a all were very much in. need of a shave and one or two needed a hair cut. That’s where they get their reputation and their bally-hoo, for personally we think most of them-are ambitious young men who have tried to make the grade in the major leagues or in the class AA an it have failed. They have joined the House o£ David team, get a good salary and have DTi\y lo play ball and grow a. beardBut^as ball players the boys arc good. However, without that chin adornment they probably wouldn't draw a corporal's guard unless fans came to see Old FeteTake Early DeadAs far as the ball game goes the imitatoi's of the Smith Brothers went out and scored five runs in the first two innings and then at the behest of Mr Alexander they counted a few more times and finally ended with 14 markers, Menasha in the meantime was finding the slants of a Mr. Tolle hard to connect *with and one run in tlio third and one in the seventh was all the boys picked up.The game was played under lights and to mahy persons the battle was a new and interesting experience. The ball could be followed very well throughout the game although the ‘antics of one or two Menaslia fielders indicated they probably had trouble judging- flies When new balls were In use things were fine, wrhen old, dirty balls werem vogue it wasn’t so easy.The game almost ended perma-turely. In night baseball battles when a ball goes out of the lot it’s gone In the darkness and doesn’t come back. The hoys used 3 5 balls last night which Alex said wasn't many. In the seventh and eighth frames every time a. hall went overthe fence the athletes had to look around for another one. ‘Tis said the last ball used in the game didn’t even have a cover on it.The box score below tells about the hits and runs and errors and so on and so forth, For that reason we’ll depart from the usual line about the fracas and recite activities on the House of David.Old Pete Alexander didn’t get into the game in any other capacity than as coach and to bat a, few grounders during infield practice. Yet during the fracas he chatted continually with a youngster who sat on one end o£ the bench.This particular chap was cheering for Menasha when Alex heard and fcnid Young man you can‘i do that You'll have to cheer for us if ^ou sit here,BanktioiAreThe youngster looked sheepish andAlex added If Judge Landis findsout about this he'll kick us all outof baseball,” and so on throughoutthe game. But the youngster doesn't know yet whether Alex meant it orwas kidding.Alexander is managing the club 'to win ball games, he gives the boys plenty of advise, and they look to him for it. That’s why they’ll put down a bunt when necessary and hit away like sluggers when the signal is on. The boys are out there to win and Alex’s encouragement helps a lot.Bawls Them Out, TooNot that he doesn’t raise the dickens with someone who apparently is forgetting.
