A FIERCE BATTLE.Boston, Mass., June 5.—Hughey t Murphy, of New York, and Billy May-j nard, of Philadelphia, went 12 fast rounds before the Tammany Athletic Club of this city Thursday night. Murphy got the decision, outpointing the Philadelphia lad in every round. Murphy did most of (lie leading, but Maynard showed remarkable strength ; in Infighting and had the Now York lad plainly worried at several stages of the fight. Murphy's clever blocking saved him from serious trouble, however. and his all-round cleverness made him an easy winner on points.Both men were down In the fourth round, which was the fiercest of the 12. The final round was fought in hurricane style, with Murphy the aggressor, hut his blows did not have steam enough to put Maynard away. About 1,000 people witnessed the battle.
