Chiefs Gain on Buffalo in IL With Double Win at ArkansasBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESSAtlanta is sweeping every doubleheader in sight and making the ; International League Southern Di- i vision race a joke, but the Syracuse Chiefs are pressing Buffalo for the top spot in the Northern i Division. |Atlanta whipped Toronto 4-1 and3-1 Sunday for its fifth straight |doubleheader sweep and length-! ened its Southern Division lead to six games over the Indianapolis Indians, who split with Buffalo. Syracuse cut Buffalo’s lead to IV2 games by sweeping Arkansas !7-3 and 10-5.Two homers by veteran Joe Christopher gave Buffalo a 2-1 verdict over Indianapolis in the nightcap after the Indians had won the opener 6-2. Rochester stayed in contention in the close-ly-I jacked Northern Diwision by trimming the Jacksonville Suns4-3. Columbus and Richmond were rained out.Right-handers Bob Sadowski (8-1) and Harry Fanok (1-0)pitched complete games for the Atlanta sweep.
