BURNET BULLDOGS CAPTURE CLASS A REGIONAL BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPThe Burnet Bulldogs are Regional Baseball champions of Class A, following their defeat here Saturday afternoon, May ‘28 of the Midlothian team by a score of 4-3. This is a record unmatched in previous Interscholastic League competition for Burnet in baseball, being the first reg-1 ional championship.In the first inning of play,i Burnet’s pitcher, Ronnie Helmsset Midlothian down 1-2-3. Bur-• net then got Thurman Fancher - on base with a walk and he i promptly stole second and on toscore on an error by the shortf stop. 1-0 at the end of the first, i The second inning saw Midlothian score two runs on two er-_ rors, a walk and a single, making . it 1-2 at the top of the 2nd, but j Burnet tied it up again at 2 all when Ronnie Petrick singled v stole 2nd and third anil then scored on a fielders choice, a Burnet went ahead 3-2 in the3rd when Butch Smith was hit by a pitch. Fancher walked, and Smith went to third on a passed ball and scored on a fielderschoice.Midlothian tied the game again in the 4th on an error and a base hit, but Burnet went ahead to stay in the bottom of the 4th, as Helms tripled and Camm Lary singled sharply to left field to make the final score 4-3.Helms threw a neat 3-hitter, striking out 6 and walking 4. Butch Smith played a fine defensive game at short stop and Mc-Ginty made a spectacular catch in the first inning of a long drive to center field by Burton.Swell, the Midlothian pitcher, struck out 2 and walked 5 and gave up 4 base hits.Coach Vandeventer and the Bulldog baseball team are to be congratulated on their fine baseball season and for bringing regional honors to our school.
