PAGKEY CLAIMS HE WON:-| Comment on Fight in London Favors Chicago Boy.McFarland Says He Should Have Been Given Decision Over Welsh Instead of a Draw.London, .Tune 1.—“Packey” McFarland, of Chicago, and Freddie Welsh, the lightweight champion of England, who fought a 20-round draw according to Referee Tom Scott, met at the National Sporting club to receive their share of the purse. There lias been much comment on the referees decision, the general opinion of Americans being that McFarland won the bout. After the fighters had received their share of the purse and the return of the side bet of $1,000, McFarland said: / ' . ,“I have received some rotten decisions by referees, but this one was the limit. I outboxed and outfought Welsh in every round. He realized from the start, that he was beaten. With the exception of two rounds he only fought on the defensive in order to prevent me from landing a knockout, which saved the referee from exercising his judgment. Nobody was more surprised than Welsh at the decision of Referee Scott.”
