Pilling Named Hockey GoachThe Roanoke Valley HockeyV 4’Club today announced that a one year .contract has been signed with Gregg Pilling of Alberta, British Columbia, as coach, of the Rebels hockey team. Pilling will assume his new duties September 1, 1972.Pilling has played In the Eastern Hockey League for thelast two seasons, last year as Captain of the SuncoastSuns, and the previous year as a member of the Championship Charlotte Checkers. While playing for Suncoast,, Pilling was named the Eastern Hockey League Southern Division's “Most Valuable Player,“ bymembers of opposing teams.Gene Hawthorne, Rebels' President, said, “We feel most fortunate in obtaining the service of Gregg Pilling. He comesto the Roanoke Valley after a long search, covering Interviews with a large number of prospective coaches. His most ardent booster Is Fred Creighton, former Charlotte Checker Coach arid General Manager.Hawthorne further said, “The style of Gregg's play Is what the 1972 Rebel’s management;!? seeking.
