GRAPPLE FOB U. S. TITLE—Eau Claire wrestler Jack Witzig applies a little pressure to the bac4 of United States Heavyweight Champion Verne Gagne. The match for the U. S. title was declared a draw. World Champion Dick Hutton was unable to meet Witzig for their scheduled World title bout because of an injury suffered in Minneapolis Tuesday night.U.S. Champion, Gagne,Witzig BattleDrawVerne Gagne and Jack Witzig. both masters of mat skills, each met their match in every hold as they fought to a draw in a bout for the United States Heavyweight championship before a maximum crow’d at the American Legion Auditorium Wednesday night.The crowd was disappointed in not seeing Dick Hutton, heavyweight champion of the world, who was to have met Witzig for the World Title.Witzig got a severe finger lock on Gagne and had the United States champion on his knees in the opening minutes of the main event.
