(AP) - AIL America Joe Namath, the New York Jets’ $400,000 rookie quarterback, gets his first test in the American Football League Wednesday night when the Boston Patriots and Jets meet in a rookie exhibition.Namath was signed by the Jets last fall for a bonus reportedly around $400,000, despite a big question about his knee. He said “fts hard to tell how the knee is. All I know is, it hasn’t bothere me yet.”Pats Coach Mike Holovak said Namath won’t have to worry about being blitzed in the exhibition“We never blitz in a game like this,” Holvak said. “We haven’t had time in one week of practice to insert it in our defense.’Holovak said the game is intended to test the players and blitzing “isn’t a good way to evpluate and prepare a defense.”The Boston coach added, however, “Don’t think Namath won’t get touched. His linemen are bound to break down once in a while and our defense will break through — blitz or no blitz.”Opposing Namath as quarterback will be Charlie Green, a Little All-America from Wittenberg University with a number of Ohio conference records to his creditFormer Navy star Joe Bellino will start at halfback for the Patriots and Jim Whalen, formerly of Boston College, will be flankerback.Holovak has picked former Southeastern Louisiana fullback Ellis Johnson to round out his backfield.
