Johnston, one-gallon pinsApprove New GolfClubhouseA new design for a clubhouse at Forest Park Golf Course was approved Tuesday by the Park and Recreation Board.The proposal prepared by Doug Pierce and Charles Bone, Valparaiso Architects, is within the budget, Supt Bruce Swann said.Cost of the clubhouse, a 30-by-48-foot structure won’t be made public until bids are received, hopefully in August.The elevated building will incorporate a 10-foot wide veranda, under roof, around the entire exterior, in order to preserve and utilize the view.The building, with basement, will be erected with minimum restroom facilities at this time, Swann said, noting that complete locker room facilities will be roughed in. The building will lend itself to expansion as the need arises.The proposal will be sent to state officials for approval from the Administrative Building Council within 10 days. Bid advertising will begin after state approval is received.Nine-hole addition at the golf course is expected to be open by Aug. 15. TemporaryDesignarrangements for administration, such as a clubhouse, will be made in order that the nine holes may be used if construction on the new clubhouse is under way.Two communications received by the board were tabled. They concerned a proposal by the Porter County Arts Commission to use and preserve Gardner School as an arts center and the establishment of a lakes area conservancy area.The commission proposes to purchase the school through the Valparaiso Park District. The Park Department would own the property and the commission would coordinate the cultural program.The second communication involves the establishment of a conservancy district in the Flint Lake area to govern and maintain water and sewage services in the area by residents.A request from the Chamber of Commerce to use the golf course for a September outing was tabled by the board in order to allow time to determine the status of the nine-hole addition.
