MacMi I lan-Scobey arFrank Brennan joins clubFor a while, fastball fans were beginning to wonder whether the MacMillan* Sen bey entry in the Peace River and District Mens Fastball League were going to win a game and now they may be wondering when they are going to lose.MacMillan-Scobey failed to win in their first five games but did threaten in a number of games from then on. A few times the ball game could have gone either way and then all of a sudden the ball bounced their way (plus the addition of a new catcher in Frank Brennan) and the club is off and running.At the moment the construction team is in third and last place with eight points, but they are only two wins away from Marshall Automotive giants. Houlder Automotive leads the league with 14 points.Last week’s action had MacMillan-Scobey winning three games in three nights. In the opener, they collected 19 hits from three Giant pitchers, winning 17 to 9. Gary Lund took the win while Gordon Kublick, who received relief help from Bob Miller and Larsten Hees, suffered the loss.Jim Lund, Glen Paul and Gordon Northey did most ofthe hitting for MacMillan-Scobey. Northey had the most hits in batting 4 for 6. Walter Mesick, Ron MacKenzie and Doug Ellis each managed a pair of base hits for the losers.In the second game played, MacMillan-Scobey continued to show power as they edged the league leading Houlder Automotive Huskies 4-3 in a game that went into five extra innings.Gary Lund, once again pitched his club to the win while the loss went to Bill McFadden. The Huskies were guilty of two errors while the construction crew played errorless ball.Grimshaw started out the second contest as if they were going to run away with it on the scoreboard. With two base runners aboard, Rick Mercier blasted a Gary Lund pitch for a three-run homer that lasted until the fourth when Jim Lund smacked a bases-loaded double to tie the game and send it into extra innings.In the 12th inning, shortstop Butch Peppier singled for JVIacMillan-Scobey took second on a wild pitch by ^McFadden and then scored the winning run on a single by Glenn Paul.In game three, played atGrimshaw, the MacMillan-Scobey boys once againallowed Grimshaw a first inning lead but, as in the last game, it didn’t last.Gary Lund for the second consecutive night edged Bill McFadden in a pitching performance to give the construction club a big 4-2 win.The big hit for the Mac-Millan-Scobey club came , when Gordon Northey clouted a double with Frank Brennan and Jim Lund on base.It was the third straight win for the MacMillan-Scobey and the third for pitcher Gary Lund also. Their other first string pitcher Fred Reaume -has been enjoying summer away on holidays.As a result of the three games, MacMillan-Scobey have climbed from two points in the cellar to within striking *range of the second place *Marshall Automotive Giants *and the league leading Houlder Automotive Huskies.Both Grimshaw Houlder Automotive Huskies and the Peace River Marshall Automotive Giants have one game in hand. The two clubs are expected to catch up on the postponed game this week.The regular schedule ends August 9 with the finals scheduled to be started no later than August 21.The semi-finals will be best of three affair while the finals will be three out of five series.
