The result: Anatoly Karpov, who was second is nowj on top.According to FIDE's Permanent Secretary Costa Abundo, Kasparov and Short “have disqualified themselves from FIDE services” by their decision not to play their upcoming title match under FIDE auspices.The future effect of the action is not yet clear. But a decision by the Professional Chess Association (PCA) Kasparov and Short's fledgling organization — to publish its own rating list adds to the confusion.Meanw hile, a circus of sortsis shaping up for chess journalists who have been planning to cover the Kasparov-Short match, now scheduled to begin in London on Sept. 7 under the aegis of the PCA. A parallel FIDE w?orld championship match between Karpov and Jan Timman of Holland w ill get underway a few days earlier in Holland.
