2D/The Grapevine Sun/Thursday. .July 23, 1987wha t they a re sayi ng.Like the wrestling TV programs. It is not like the old saying: What you see is what you get! Far from it on wrestling, soaps or live congressional inquiries. For example: Fabulous I^mce He is the former Lance Von Krich He is also the real Kevin Vaughn, You may have noticed that some programs ago, one of the Von Erichs an nounced in the ring, i ather surprisingly, that Lance was in effect no longer ir, the family. In the publication Wrestling ObserverNewsletter, the editor wrote: “Lance Von Erich was scheduled to return from his elbow surgery on June 22 Although it was announced on TV, the word we've been getting is I^ance will instead join ‘another promotion .’ Iance will probably wrestle under the name of Lance Vaughn.”The breakup of the relationship of the Von Erichs with their poseur cousin is interesting given the problems the family has endured and faces in the future, professionally. Some believe it emanated from some legal interpretations relative the the proper name Lance was assuming. Or it could be, like many families endure, that brothers, sisters and cousins have falling outs and never speak to each other again. The former seems more logical. That’s taken a lot of space to encourage the wrestling fans to renew their support of Lance in a new setting and new life And. Wild West Wrestling moves along to another of its glamorous locations August K when the telecast takes place at Southfork. And if I see that J R., I’m going to give him a piece of my mind about the way he treats Sue Ellen! My thoughts warn me that this article may be self serving. But then we “journalists” are constantly being accusedof that, and much worse, i.e. in recent soap opera testimony “the media as a whole is a dupe of the Soviets ”, and worse. I’ll get back to that.Warming up to my own .service, as crisp as my tennis game, the first videotaping of the new Wild West Wrestling program, on remote, occurs Tuesday, July 21 at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth.WWW, here are those initials again, is a bright, crisp program. particularly the graphics and music. Three programs have been aired on Channel 39 at a p.m. on Saturday, and each, in my unbiased, humble opinion, has improved from weekto week. The program at Billy Bob's is headlined by a tag team match featuring Wild Bill Irwiw and the Missing I -ink (who is seen around Denton often) battling John Tatum and Jack Victory, the Hollywood boys. Sherry Martel will defend her WAWWomen’s Championship against CandiDevine while Gatu Vera puts her Mexican Women's lt;,'hampionship on the mat against La Seremta Also on the program is the handsome Austin Idol, Savanah Jack and the recent graduate of the UWF Training Center for prospective wrestlers, SolomonGrundy. The most interesting bout may be Iceman King Parsons meeting Fabulous Lance who used to be loanee Von Erich I'll get back to that in a moment. Tickets are $7.30 for adults, $5 general admission and three bucks for kids Tickets an* RVfulHhW* at Billv Bob's or Rainbow Ticket outlets.WrestlingBILLMERCERLike everyone else I have been listening or watching the hearings in Washington. And it comes to my mind that this great medium of television might well be the downfall of our country! All these years in broadcasting, first in radio and then in both radion and television, I have been asked by those who listened to radio and never saw the talent , “what is so-and-so really like?”I’m almost positive that my mother really believed that the members of “One Man’s Family” on network radio were real-life characters. Then along came television and we coule see those talented people and know what they were REALLY like, Wrong Why is it that persons go up to those bad guy or girl actors on seen on soap operas in super markets and hurl insults at them. What you see on television is just like radio; the persons are not three dimensional lawyers rehearse their clients forthe hearings, for court room appearance. And if you are ever in trouble you don’t want some choir boy as your lawyer Those guys on current television know their business. And so when I see these real-life characters appearing I find it is better to shut out the picture and listen carefully toRpcorrl ('hronllt; 1*
