Th*Local C hampion.At Electric Park last night fully 3.000 persons sow a race In which Henry Smith, the champion 24 hour cycler, defeated tl ree horse* hooked to sulkies. The feat was no great one for Smith, a* the fastest mile In the five was only In 2.25. Smith had pacers, but the contest would have been much more Interesting had he gone OH! and won without pace, a* he could have done. On the tandems which paced Smith were Parker and Homey and Lewis and J^nos.A tlx-foot Width at the inner edge of the truck, was rolled smooth and hard for the wheelman, the horses being required to k* * p out In the middle of the course and go a iong mile. The three horses In the contest were Bernice Medium, trotter, 2.211*. driven by William Bramble; Trixie Lee, paeer, 2.211*. driven by Richard Ilentschel, and William €., pacer, 2.24t4f driven by William lt;\ Weiss, of Annapolis. Smith won easily by thirty feet.in the start of the first heat a tire onBernice Medium s sulky collapsed. Trixie Lee caught Smith at the finish of the mileand scored awav wdth him. Trixie Leewon the mile by four feet. This was the only mile won by a horse. William 0. was the contestant in the second mile heat, but broke at the quarter pole and the cycler led at the mile mark In 2.28. TrixieLee was In the third mile, but was beaten by the eyclei by twenty feet In 2.29. Tbei r beat Willi** O. the fourth mile byfour feet in *2 25.The fifth and deciding mile was theslowest of the race. It was Trixie Lee vs. Smith, and Smith won it and the race by ten lengths in 2.33.The officers were: T. F. Greacen. starter; E. P. Baker and Samuel Thomas, judges; William G. LeCorapte, EdwardWedekind, Howard A. French. Conway W. Sams, II. E. Perry and J. W. M. Vidler,bicycle officials.
