[on.The victory over Trenton last light at Simpson Park svas a nig blow to the defending cham-lion as the Grundy County :eam suffered its third loss of Lhe season against seven vic-;ories.Bill Timmons went the distance against Trenton, giving !p six hits, including a solo nomer to losing pitcher Mike Arbuckle, who suffered his third loss of the season, Timmons was in complete control after the opening inning in winning his fourth straight game against no losses.Vern Glick, the hottest team In the District Two race, moved into sole possession of third place with its victory last night. It followed an easy 12-1, five-innlng win over Browning in the second game of a doubleheader played Saturday night at Simpson Park. Vern Glick is now 7-4.Last night’s victory avenged jn earlier 8-3 loss at Trenton.Trenton scored first in the fop f the first inning, but Tim -, nous buckled down the rest of he way and Trenton was able o get only one more run—the ong solo homer by Arbucklc »ver the right field fence to ead off the sixth inning. .The first run came after Dadd Seymour had walked, advanced to second on an error ind then came home on a single y Joe Slonecker.Vern Glick took the lead for good in the fourth after making some noise in the third inning with singles by Paul McNew and Tom Gatson. Dave Bennett led off the fourth with a single and after a strikeout, Bill Timmons walked. Both Bennett and Timmons moved up on a passed ball and Bennett later scored on a wild pitch. Shermie Smith singled to right to drive in Timmons with the go-ahead run.The host club put the contest away in the fifth and one costly throwing error opened the door for Vern Glick (the onlyerror by Trenton fn the game).McNew opened with a single in the fifth. Gatson bounced back to Arbuckle and the Trenton pitcher turned around to force McNew at second and threw wildly. The ball got by the center fielder with McNew crossing the plate and Gatson , ending up at third. Bennett i singled across Gatson to make it 4-1 and Brent Aluecke came in to relieve Arbuckle.Mueckc walked three straight baiters io force in one run before getting the second out. Then he walked two more batters forcing in two more runs before Gatson flied out to end the inning. Sharp hurled the final three innings for Trenton.Timmons was never touched for more than one hit in any inning—giving up a single in the first, second, fifth and eighth end a double in the third and the home run in the sixth. He struck out five and walked four in going the distance for the third time this season.The three Trenton hurlers gave up 12 walks and seven hits. They scored enough runs in thefirst two innings to win, but Stewart’s no - hitter made it real easy.Stewart missed a shutout in the first inning when Browning put together a lead-off walk, a sacrifice and a Vern Gliek error to score its only run.Vern Glick came back in the bottom of the first to score two runs. McNew, Gatson and Ellison put together three straight singles with a walk, an error and a fielders choice to movein front 2-1.Three Browning errors, a hit batsman and a single helped Vern Glick get two more runs in the second to make it 4-1. Again walks helped Vern Glick in lhe third when they scored eight nms on only two hits to move ahead 12-1.The big blow was a bases loaded triple by Stewart. Vern Glick sent 14 batters to the piate and took advantage of nine walks in the inning to put its sixth straight win on the board.Stewart finished the five-ning game with four RBI's and tn the pitching department he fanned 10 in recording his no-hitter.
