The Red Hots were the winners, by a I score of *20 to The playing on Vt the part of the Actives, during the | Mi first fonr innings, was loose, whilst I the Reds played from the lirst, with I an energy that showed them deter | Aj mined to win. The Actives allowed Pn the Reds to score 2*2 to 11, up to the j fifth inning, when they went at it,! with that earnestness that has always characterized their playing in the last innings, but this time too late to make up for their carelessness at the beginning, although they kepi the score of the Reds down to 7, while they made 12 runs, la three innings. Had there been cue more inning, the Actives would have retained the ball. The clubs are very nearly equal, in general playing, the difference, if any, being in favor of the Actives. The Actives excelled in the field, while the Red Hots kept the lead in batting. Not one of them however, ever got beyond second base, on a single bat, aud but one home run wa9 scored during the game—that of Dufour, of the Actives, on a long line hit pr*9t centre field. The Actives* outfield took five flies, while not one was sent out for the Hots. The pitcher of the i «« Red Hots proved himself an adept c in his position, which accounts in part for the poor balling of the Ac co lives The game was one of those closely contested matches that re fleet equal credit on the playing of both clubs. Esq , umpired, and gave satisfaction, not only to the players, but to the audience, his decisions being rendered promptly and impartially.This game has showu our country boys to be possessed of the material or a firat-ciass nine, and if the patrons of Base Ball, here io the city, will extend to them that encouragement doe their efforts, we will again have a club that will be a credit to our county.The return game between them and the Red Hots, will be played at Jackson, at an early day.
