Gonzales Cruises Past Nixon, 7-2By BEN PKAUSEAdvocate Start WriterYAOKILM - Pete Wilkerson pitched a one-hit Rame and scored two runs lo lead the Gonzales Little League All-Stars to a 7-2 win over Nixon Thursday night.The victory gave Gonzales the Zone II championship in District 13.Gunzales will play the Zone I winner in New Braunfels at 8 p.m. Monday. The Area W and IV zone winners play there at a p.m. Tuesday.Winners of the Monday and Tuesday night games meet for the district championship at 8 p.m. July 27.Area II play in Yoakum began Monday night when Nixon beat Cueru 8-5. Hallutl* sville blanked Yoakum 4-0 Tuesday night and Gonzales beat HaHettsville 7-5 Wednesday night.Wilkerson scored Gonzales’ first run hi the Lop of the first inning when Mike Barnett singled. -Wilkerson go I on base oii a walk and advanced to third on a single by Russel Adams.Nixon countered wilh two runs in the bottom of the opening frame but was unable to pul anything logclhrr the rest of the game.Nixon’s Vernon Moove got onbase on an error and then scored on an error. Roland Casas, who struck out 1G Cuero baiters Monday night, scored Nixon's other win when Joe Rencvidcs singled to left field. Casas got on base on one of the twu walks allowed during the gome by Wilkerson.Gonzales tied the score 2-2 in the second inning and then went out fronl lo stay with two runs in the third.
