Lincoln football coach fired, charged with assaultASSOCIATED PRESSJEFFERSON CITY — Lincoln University football coach Jack Bush was charged with misdemeanor assault Thursday and fired after a confrontation with an assistant.Bush, who led the revival of Lincoln’s football program after a 10-year dormancy, faces a third-degree misdemeanor assault charge for attacking assistant coach Kevin Faulknerduring a meeting at Iincoln’s athletic offices, said Herb Heinen, a spokesman for the Cole County prosecutors office. University police referred questions about the incident to the school’s public relations office, which said only that Bush was placed on administrative leave Wednesday and would be released effective July 31.“Nobody at the university at this time is allowed to say anything more,” said sports information director David Klopfer.The incident occurred Monday. Bush was arrested that night and released from jail Tuesday, according to jail documents.Bush played football for Lincoln from 1967 to 1971. Iincoln disbanded the football program following the 1989 season after a succession of losing years. But in 1997, Bush was hired tospearhead a fund-raising campaign to revive the program.He was hired as the head coach and led Lincoln to a 24 record while competing as a club team in 1999. He guided the Blue Tigers to a 3-6 record in 2(XX) while competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and a 4-5 record in 2(X)1 while competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II.
