.CtuiIn a «amo marked by considerable wrangling on the part of both teams. Emmetsburg defeated Estherville Thursday on the letter's grounds by a score of 3 to t. A large delegation from Km-metsburg attended tho game and all were pleased to note the decided improvement the K. ,C. boys have made during tho past week. Tl6ir team was greatly strengthened by the services of Canty, Doyle and Doc Spillane. all of whom reported Wednesday, coming from the South Dakota league. Spil-lane’s pitching was one of the featnres of tho gamo, tho southpaw being master of the situation at all times, allow-Estherville only five scatteredingbinglcs. Canty in right and Doyle in left garden played good ball, the latter driving in two runs and scoring the other himself. Gene Mulroney was at the receiving end for the home team and showed the Estherville management that they released a valuable player when they turned down the clever little backstop earlier in tho season. J. Kerwick at first, B. Mulroney at second and Murray on the far corner played good ball, while Cretzmeyer and W. Kerwick took care of the short stop and center field positions in a manner that pleased the Emmetsburg fans. There was no scoring done until the seventh*inning, Getchcll and Spillane engaging in a pretty pitcher's buttlo. E. Mulroney singled to oien this session, Jack Doyle followed with a screaming double to center, Mulroney scoring on the drive. An infield out put Doyle on third from which base he scored on a neatly executed squeczo play. Joe Kerwick singled, stole second aud third, and died on third when Cretzmeyer fanned. lu the eight Estliervillo came back and scored ono when Farmer got a life on Crctzmeyer’s error. A single advanced him to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly. Emmetsburg put the game on ice in the ninth. E. Mulroney tripled and Doyle singled. B. Mulroney was safe on a fielder's choice and it looked like more runs, but tho next batters went down in order. With two down in the ninth J. Kerwick fumbled Anderson’s grounder and B. Farmer was hit-by a pitched ball. With two on and two out C. Farmer hit a high foul which Gene Mulroney captured after hurdling a fence and making the most sensational play of the day. Fol-r.aturedly.The game started at three o’clock. The Rolfe right and center fielders and one of their pitchers were delayed by an auto accident. The K. O. • boys waited 30 minutes and then furnished the visitors two fielders-W. Kirby in center and W. Kerwiek in right. They played five innings when Rolfe's players arrived. The score was 4 to 0 in favor of Emmetsburg. The Rolfe captain changed pitchers and, with his two new fielders, was going to cut considerable of a swath. The Emmetsburg boys went to bat and with heavy hitting, assisted by the errors of the outfielders, secured six run3 before they were retired. Emmetsburg scored again in the seventh and eighth innings. Messrs. Kirby and Korwick played a far better game in the field and at the bat than I the Rolfe players who succeeded hem.Eugene Mulroney did tho batting for Emmetsburg. Ho got a bit every time went to bat, two of them goiDg for hree bases. Doyle ami Spillane got two hits each and Canty, Joe Kerwick and Tom Coonan secured one each. Mnty pitched the last three innings for Emmetsburg and Rolfe could not lo any more with his curves than with he pitching of Spillane.Following is a summary of the game: Emmetsburg—Canty, rf-p Mulroney, c )oyle, If Murray, ss Mulroney, 2b Kerwick. lb Cretzmeyer, 3b toocan, cf Spillane, p \V Kerwick, rfRolfe— Boyce. 3b Taylor, If Weaver, 2b Coffin, p-ss Mather, c Butler, p Hornor, c£ Lighter, rf Butler, lbEmmetsburg—AB RH PO AECanty, rE400 100E Mulroney, c423 1020Doyle, If413 200Murray, 3b300 .121B Mulroney, 2b301 221j Kerwick, lb401 1101Cretzmeyer, ss4001 o0IW Kerwick, c£300 000Spillane, p332030 0 4 S 27 1004Estherville—AB RII PO A EBaker, ss4.01 210Cook, c302 1120Barnholt, 3b400 1I1M Andersoe, lb* 400 1000B Farmer, 2b401 I40G Anderson, cf400 100C Farmer, rf310 100Wilder, If401 000Getchel, p333010 0 45 27-1201R H EEmmetsb’g—0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 1—3 S 4 Estherville— 00000001 0—1 5 1 Two-base hit, Doyle;; 3-base hit, E Mulroney; sacrifice hits, B Mulroney, Murray; stolen bases, J Kerwick 2; struck out, by Getchel 11, by Spillane 9; bases on balls, off Spillane 1; hit by pitcher.
