Midwestern Karate Tourney In Wichita This SaturdayThe First Annual Midwestern Invitational Karate Tournament will be held on July 21, 1973 in Wichita's Century II Convention Hall. This tournament will be the largest held in the Midwest and will launch an annual event of Karate competition, combined with entertainment by top Karatedemonstrators.Black Belts from all parts of the t inted States will compete for coveted trophies. There willbe a cash prize of $200 to theKarate School who has the largest number of students scoring wins. A total of 53 trophies will be awarded to competitors in Black Belt, Intermediate and Pee Wee Divisions -- a total of $5,000 in prizes.Mr. Daniel K. Pai, 8th Degree Black Belt and one of the top Karate showmen in the nation, will perform various forms of his art including a spectacular demonstration previously on national television. Mr. Pai will break 1,000 lbs. of ice with his hand in Wichita, as he has donein Madison Square Garden. Other top Karate experts will perform unbelieveable featstop off the program. Presenting trophies to winners will be the Honorary Tournament Queen, Miss Margaret (Mogie) Langston, Former Miss Wichita (1972) and other Miss Wichita Finalists.Competitors w ill be classified for matches starting at 8 a.m. Matches begin at 10 a.m. Finals for Intermediate Belts and Pee Wees begin at 6 p.m. with presentation of trophies immediately following.
