SONS OF ITALY HAVE 2 GA1Go to Auburn Saturday; Play Crane’s Men Here SundayFor the first time this season the local Sons of Italy clan will play two games over the week-end. Saturday they travel to Auburn to tackle the Auburn Imps. Sunday, Scott Crane’s aggregation, the team which chalked up a victory at the Sons’ expence will endeavor to trounce Leo Geneco’s nine again here.Auburn is considered the fastest semi-pro team in New York state. Thus far this season they’ve won all of their games. Auburn holds a victory over Eber’s 18-6, they also defeated the Brooklyn Colored Giants, the House of David bunch and many other well known teams. Saturday, however, they may not find the going as easy as in the previous games. Geneco intends to bring baseball laurels to Canandaigua and is rounding up a fast outfit. Francis Blake will be one of the many new faces on the field when the umpire calls “play ball.” It is expected that either Eddie Van Damme or Leo Henehan will toe the slab for the locals.Geneseo, which still has a very good chance in winning the Empire State League flag is likely to give the Italians a scare in the holiday tilt. Although they were defeated by Gentner’s bunch two weeks ago, Scott Crane feels confident that his boys will emerge victorious. To make things more interesting he has hired King Lehr, a very good twirl-er to stop Canandaigua. King Lehr is well known in this vicinity and have a very good reputation as a hurler but if he can stop the local sluggers is yet to be seen. Leo will also have at least two new faces against Geneseo. At a meeting of the Empire State League at the local Sons of Italy hall last evening it was decided that Wayland would take Fittsford’s place. Wayland has an exceptionally good team this season and may be a stumbling block for many a team.Their first game will be against Stanley at Wayland Sunday. The two forfeits will not be counted against them so that puts them in a very good position. Their standing in the league will be second place. Just one full game behind the hustling Sons of Italy team. Geneseo is third, having won five and dropping four. Stanley and Geneva are tied with four wins and four losses and Gentner’s bunch is completely out of the race having lost seven games and winning but one.The Geneseo game will be played at Red Jacket Park as the town team travels to Geneva to play Johnny Bogart’s nine.KTHCSiGWHFlt;S)scFlt;JiHJe
