LEE STRAIT ' KILLED BY CAEWell Known Baseball Player Victim of Unuslt; ual Accident:Lee Strait, of Elmira, widely f known as a professional baseball player for many years, was killed almost instantly at Hornell Thursday when his own car ran over r him after he had been thrown from the driver’s seat. ‘The accident was most unusual. Mr. Starit was thrown out of his car as it skidded against a curb and landed in the street directly in front of the machine which lan over him and killed him.The accident happened as Mr. Strait was starting for his home in Elmira after he had umpired a baseball game between the House of David team and the Hornell Moosq nine.Mr. Strait was prominent in baae ball circles in Elmira and other cities for many years. Always a hard hitter and a clever outfielder, he played with Buffalo and other teams in the International League and with Elmira in the New York-Pennsylvania League.He was manager of the Elmira Arties, Elmira Bemi-pro nine, when that organization was the leading baseball team in the Southern Tier, He also played semi-pro baseball at Olean and other cities in the Southern Tier.Following his retirement from baseball Mr. Strait conducted the Recreation Bowling Alleys in Elmira, and managed a semi-professional football team. At the height of his baseball career he was one of the best known players in the minor leagues. He was a: native of Mansfield,The funeral was held at Mansfield Sunday afternoon. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Lila Peters, of Wilkinsburg, Pa., and Miss Eloise Strait, of Mansfield; one brother, Dr. Donald W., of Endi-cott, and stepmother, Mrs. Daisy L, Strait, of Mansfield.
