Retseck playingin Puerto RicoAubufn forward Jim Retseck is in Puerto Rico this week representing the United States in a series of basketball exhibitions throughout the commonwealth.A 6-9 junior, Retseck was selected for the 12-man squad playing in Puerto Rico at the Pan-American Games tryouts in Colorado last month, after failing to make the U.S. Pan-Am team.Tiger head basketball coach Bill Lynn noted that Retseck's selection to this may give him an inside track for the 1972 Olympic team.“This guarantees him an invitation for the trials next year. That is an honor in itself/' said Lynn. Auburn has never had a basketball player in the Olympics.Retseck is one of the only three sophomores to make the secondary squad, according to Lynn. None made the Pan-Am team. With a number of the seniors• \selected this year likely to pass up the Olympics for a pro contract, plus the fact that Retseck will have another year under his belt, Retseck*s chances in 1972 look brighter, said Lynn.Retseck left Sunday for the Puerto Rican tour to be held through July 26. After that, he and his teammates will fly to Miami, where they will practice with the Pan-Am team before returning to their homes. This is the second time in two years that Auburn has had a basketball player compete overseas. Last summer, All-American guard John Mengelt, now with the CincinnatiRoyals of the National Basketball Association, represented the U.S. in competition with Russia.
