Young skaters go to NationalsShawna Sumner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sumner. 811 Belzer Drive, and Bryan Denney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Denney, 2419 Bramble Way, have qualified from the Great Lakes Regional Championships for the United States National Skating Championships to be held in Lin coin. Neb.. July 29 through Aug 9 To qualify for the national com petition, skaters must get first, se cond or third in the regionals. Bryan and Shawna represent the W Wheelers Skating Club in Alexandria. The skaters paired up towin the Juvenile Dance title.Shawna placed third in theJuvenile Girls Figure Kvent andBryan placed first in both theJuvenile Boys Singles Kvent andJuvenile Boys Figure Kvent, Shawna is 11 years old and willbe in the sixth grade at LeachSchool She won the RegionalJuvenile Dance title last year andwas able with her new partner.Bryan, to defend her title this year.Shawna has qualified for nationalcompetition the last three years.Bryan is 11 years old and will be in the sixth grade at Greenbriar School. He also plays in the MajorLeague at Franklin School and hassuccessfully defended his Juvenile Boys Singles title won last year. He has also won the regionals inthe singles competition the lastfour years and has not been beat in the last two vears in any local com petition. Bryan has qualified for national competition the last sixyears.The 1978 competition will be thelist Annual Roller Skating Championships. Winners in the Senior Divisions of the championships may also be skating for a position on the United States World team, which will compete in the World Championships this Septemlwr inLisbon. Portugal. Top World Team Champions will move to Pan American Team membership and the 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico.
