Ctliek Legion team ran its winning streak to five and avenged an earlier loss to Mareeline by posting an 11-1 victory over the Linn County visitors in a game played before a large crowd last night at Simpson Park;Chillicothe put together 11 walks and one hit batsman while banging out seven base hits to gain the victory in the goven-inning game which was called because of the ten-run rule.Starting on the mound for Mareeline was Gaylen Hicks, a lefthander, who pitched one and a third innings before being relieved by Randall Cavanah. Hicks left the contest in the bottom of the second with three runs already home and three on base. He allowed five runs and two base hits but the Vern Glick team was aided by eight walks and a pair of wild pitches to come up with one run in the first and six tallies in the second frame.Cavanah hurled three andtwo-thirds innings and he gave up four runs on a pair of base bits. He walked three and struck out four in the period that he worked. Bill Nichols came in to relieve Cavanah in the bottom of the sixth, and to pitch the final two innings of the game. Nichols worked two innings in allowing two runs on three base hits, walking three *nd striking out two batters.Bill Timmons went the distance for Chillicothe as he threw a four-hitter in taking his third straight win. Timmons allowed a line run as he walked only two and struck out four.Tom Gatson led off the bottom of the first with a baseon balls and Tom Ellison then walked. Dave Bennett reached first base on a fielder’s choice as Gatson was forced out at third, Jim Scanlon was hit by a pitch, and with the bases loaded Bob Stewart walked to score Ellison.The big inning for the local Legion team came in the second as they tallied six runs on only two base hits. Steve and Bill Timmons drew walks and an infield single by Paul Mc-New loaded the bases. A base on balls to Gatson scored Steve Timmons, and Bill Timmons and McNew came in on a single by Bennett. Gatson and Bennett then scored on a pair of wild throws, followed by Jim Scanlon who walked. Bob S-te-wart then drove home Scanlon to end the scoring in that frame for Chillicothe.Mareeline remained scoreless through the first three innings but did manage their only run in the fourth frame as Rick Solomon doubled and later crossed the plate on a fielder's choice by Mike Frandson.The Vern R. Glick Legion ienm tallied two runs in the fourth and a pair in the seventh to complete their scoring with eleven runs. With the local club leading 11-1, the 10-run rule went into effect and the game was called.Leading the hitting in the fourth was Shermie Smith and Steve Timmons with a single each. The two hits drove in Scanlon and Stewart whoreached base on an error and fielder’s choice respectively.Steve and Bill Timmons arid Ellison each collected a single in the final frame to score three runs.The victory for the local Legion team moves them into the first division of District Two league play with a record of 5-4.
