Bedford Uses 10-Run Fifth To Defeat Somerset« • +SNAKE SPRING- The BedfordAmerican Legion team used a 10-runfifth inning to overcome a 2*1 deficit and defeat Somerset 12-2 on Tuesday.Bedford’s Kyle Marti pitched a five-hitter while Matt Logsdon, Keith Engle, and Brooks Shoemaker all had two hits. Logsdon,Engle, andRob Doman also contributed with two RBIs apiece.Bedford took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Ed Har-dinger and Brooks Shoemaker led off the inning with consecutive singles. Hardinger came around to score when the shortstop errored on Cary Grubb's ground ball.Somerset came back in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Scott Close led off the inning with a single, and Matt Joseph followed with a home run to center field.Then, the walls fell down around Somerset as Bedford scored to runs to build an 11-2 lead. Shoemaker led off the inning with a single and went to third when Martz's bunt attempt was thrown by the catcher past the first baseman up the first base line. Logsdon drove Shoemaker in with a single to left field. After Grubb was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Don Eliott walked to drive in Martz. Mark Clark followed with a walk to drive in Logsdon. Scott Beegie then hit a ground bail that went through the second baseman's legs for an error, which allowed Grubb to score.. Engle and Hardinger followed with' walks to drive in Elliott and Clark.Rob Doman kept the inning alive for Bedford as he hit a single to drive 'in Beegie and Engle. After Har- ’ dinger and Doman advanced pn a ground ball, Logsdon hit a sacrifice1 fly to center field to score Har* dinger. Grubb followed with a dou- j ble to drive in Doman and make the-1 score ll-2.Bedford scored its last run in the -sixth. With one out, Beegie ripped a \ single to right field, and advanced all the way to third on two wild pick • off throws.
