No Less 1 ban Public Office.Is a Public Trult;!★★★★★Tournament Time in the VillagesALL villagers, whether or not they ordinarily interest themselves in events on the tennis courts, will pay attention next week to happenings at the River Forest Tennis club which will again be host, beginning Monday, to the National Clay Courts Championships under the sponsorship of the United States Lawn Tennis Association.No other event commonly held here brings to the community so many sporting celebrities, and advance information from the tournament invitations committee indi-icates that the field this year will include almost all of the great names of amateur tennis who will be in the United States at the time. Two top-ranking stars to be entered who were not here a year ago, for instance, are Ted Schroeder and Doris Hart, both of whom might well be crowned national champions at Forest Hills later in theseason.Tennis is a game with social overtones and tournament week will, as always, be a focus of resulting local social activity, but the thrilling action in the matches themselves, as the tournament progresses, will capture nationwide attention. Villagers who have unavoidably been traveling elsewhere while the Clay Courts meet is in progress have noted that wherever they may be it is possible to follow tournament developments in the newspapers there. The Clay Courts, second only to the national championships on grass at Forest Hills in American tennis, is an event of world-wide importance.Villagers are uncommonly lucky to have the tournament here, where we can see the tournament matches with a minimum of effort and expense. Many tennis fans will travel long distances to view the finals and in some cases the entire week of play.The thing is not as simple as that for those members of the River Forest Tennis club most intimately involved in the tournament, however. Planning for the big event begins months ahead, and for several weeks now most of the committees involved have been spending untold time and effort in perfecting the preparations and arrangements. During tournament week the work requires attention 15 to 18 hours a day for some.The villages owe a debt of gratitude to the host club and its leaders for their efforts. Some of the glory and benefits of the tournament, through their work, is shedupon all of River Forest and Oak Park.Traditional centers of hospitality, the villages welcomethe players and visitors who will come here for the tournament, many of them to be guests in our homes.
