Local driver hurtKokomo sprint car driver Mark Owsley was involved in a nasty wreck during qualifications at theGas City 1-69 Speedway Friday night.Owsley flipped during qualifications in turn one when the right rear wheel broke, sending his car into a wild, end-over-ena flip. He was taken to Marion General Hospital and kept overnight after being treated for a severe neck injury.“I didn’t even know what hap-ned, Owsley said from his me Saturday. “I was driving along, and the next thing I knew, Iwas in the hospital.”Owsley said his crew worked all day Saturday repairing the car, and he’ll be at the Kokomo Speedway ready to run tonight. Hesaid he’ll find a neck brace to wear, and said his neck hurts worse than anything else he banged up in the crash. He suffered no broken bones but has a pair of black eyes.A record crowd of 1,500 saw Warsaw’s Tony Elliott recover from a spin in the fourth lap to come back and nip Tom Bigelow for the 25-lap feature win.In qualifying, Chesterfield’s Tray House set a new track record with a lap of 13.79? seconds to break the mark of : 13.857 set last ear by USAC Sprint Champion teve Butler from Kokomo.Heat winners were House, Kokomo’s Tim Bookmiller, Mishawaka’s Van Gurley and Kokomo’s Kurt Danner.
