PlayoffForRoundCrownSeemsSureInFederalThe Federal League, enjoying one of its hottest races in several seasons, rings down the curtainon its regular schedule this we ek,but it looks as though an involved playoff may be necessary to decide the champion.Frontier Cafe, Yankee Tavern and Coca-Cola are all deadlocked in the second round with three w^ins and one loss and are pitted against second division teams this week.A three-team playoff for the second round championship will be necessary to d e t e rmine the champ if all three win Thursday. The winner of that playoff, unless it’s Frontier, will play the Cafe-men in a playoff to determine the league champion. Frontier wonthe first half crown. An elimination tournament is on deck for Federal League teams starting a week from Thursday.A DEADLOCK for first also exists in the Industrial League, but with five games remaining on theschedule, the loop could wind up with a clearcut pennant winner.Sorg dropped out of sole possession of first place last week and Armco took a share of the top spot by winning twice. The standings were further shakened when Wrenn Paper’s lone win over Aeronca was takenaway when the Planemaker’s protest of Wrenn’s use of ineligible players was upheld.Aeronca’s second protest, filed after their loss to Gardner Board, was not allowed. The Planemakers contended that a Gardner runner stole third while the pitcher had both his feet on the rubber. The protest committee, after hearing ail testimony, decided that the Aeronca hurler, Larry Kibier, did not have both feet on the rubber. The big battle this week sends Armco against Shartle Brothers which assumed the “spoiler” roleLooplast week with an upset victory) over Sorg. They’ll play at the East Side diamonds at 6 p.m. Tuesday.TUESDAYShartles and Wrenn will be in action twice, playing Thursday at 8 p. m. at the Gardner diamond in an effort to keep from falling behind when Shartles closes down for vacation in August. This week’s schedule;MONDAYArmco Safety League at East Side diamonds; 6 p.m. — Maintenance vs. Hot Strip, No. 1; Cold Strip vs. Open Hearth, No. 2; Fabricating, bye.Industrial League: 6 p.mSorg Paper vs. Aeronca, Sorg diamond (Howard-Diehl); Armco vs.Shartle Brothers, East Side diamonds (McGraw-Wheeler); Crystal Tissue vs. Gardner Board, Gardner diamond (Carter-Frisby) 8 p.m. — Inland Container vs. Wrenn Paper, Gardner diamond lt;Frisby-Carter).WEDNESDAYllArmco Fabricating League at East Side diamonds: 6:30 p. m.~ Formed Products vs. Pipe Welding, No. 2; Maintenance vs. Research, No. 1.THURSDAYIndustrial League at Gardnerdiamond: 8 p. m.—Wrenn Paper!vs. Shartle Brothers (Diehl-Wheel-1 er). iFederal League at Bamitz Field 6:15 p.m. — Coca Cola vs. Amanda A C., No. 2 (Hilton-W’heeler); Frontier Cafe vs. WPFB.
