HoffmanChicago, July 12 (INS)—Having tried most everything else with more artistic than financial success, “Babe” Didrikson, the little girl who has steadfastly refused to go home and do the family dishes, is now going to give her undivided attention to becoming a golf champion.Miss'Didrikson's most recent endeavor was baseball, the playing of which was no delusion on the part of the versatile young lady, since her ability to pitch would indeed put to shame some of the less skilled persons with the Chicago White Sox and the Cincinnati Reds. But traveling up and down the land with the House of David team finally became a little distasteful to the lady and so she decided to give it up.A greater art was forever calling { upon her and who was the “Eabe” to lend a deaf ear to the summons?Until now, however, the Babe has played golf only as a diversion. Among other things, she has leather art to track, basketball, baseball, boxing and the drama. In the drama the Babe’s” part was something akin to a juggling act and consequently pretty much of a flop.Discussing her art with the writer one day backstage-fat the Palace theatre here the “BcJbe” suddenly and quite nonchalantly unloosed a resonant belch.“Oh, listen to me belch,” she remarked, and proceeded as though haying brushed a fly off her clieek.As a member of the gentler sex, the “Eabe” is no sissy, as some, who have tried to kid her, have suggested.But, like Huey Long, she does not remain out of print for any great length of time. And so now she is preparing to be a golf champion,’ forsaking basketball, baseball and the drama.Already, the “Babe” Is an astonishingly good goifer, having frequently shot in the 70’s on full length courses.
