M. Peck, is engaged in the eoal business at Sullivan, this county' where he has resided for some years.The latest stunt is that made by George W. Underwood, a native Raleigh county boy, at one time a citizen of Beckley, where still resides, a large number of his relatives. Mr. Underwood is a graduate of the Curtiss Aviation School, of San Diego, Cat., and has made nearly 400 flights, mostly in the western states, the latest occurring at La Plata, in northern Mo., in the presence of an enormous crowd. The ascent was made in a Sparling biplane, using a motor weighing 23 5 pounds.letoof'I j Paul Peck is coming in for ’ | honors of all kinds of late. Paul Peck in his Columbia bi* J plane, was easily the star of yesterday’s events. He won both the quick starting ancl the bomb throwing contests, break-10 ing at the same time the records of the meet in both. In the for* mer he threw ten bombs at an average distance of 14.6 feet from the target. The other scores were: Freeman, 19.6;Page. 21.9; Fish, 23.4, and Martin 24.2. Although Martin’s showing in this event was poorer a than that of the other performers he was flying both faster and e at a greater height than any one else.Peck’s time in the quick startling contest, 7.2 seconds, • was 2.1 considered remarkable. Martin r. was.second in. 10, ancl Page third; in 16 3-5 seconds.
