ui ii in l a,City Solicitor Benedict F. Maher, who piayed with Murphy, the champion driver or Texas, at a seaside resort last summer, is considered by the club here as a promising young player. He has not yet developed far beyond driving, at which he is making fine records. His 180-yard drives are well known and he will no doubt make that 226 yards this year.Joseph H. Bridge of Boston, who spends his summers here, has become an enthusiastic member of the club and Is playing his part In the club matches as scheduled. Other new members who are Interesting themselves arc Joseph Williamson, County Atty Thomas J. Leigh, Alderman Samuel Cony Manley, i)r George 15 Friend, M. S. Holway and Dr H. H. Stubbs. Last year Herbert L. Sherburne, a leading merchant here, was making fine records. He was a man to be feared by the ordinary golfer and ho may be on the links again later in the season. His summer home is taking up his time this year.The club was recently honored by an invitation to meet the Brunswick golf club and the time was arranged for the meet, but the absence of Cooper and Malier crippled the team so badly tha* the match was declured off. The match will come off later.
