TODD BERKEY/ rTODD BERKEY/THt rMOCRATJohnstown Grays’ Chris Minarcin allowed just two base runners in a AAABA win over Assure Home Equity yesterday.RHP Minarcintosses 1-hitterBy MATT JORDANFOR THE TRIBUNE-DEMOCRATThe Johnstown Grays relied on the arm of Chris Minarcin yesterday afternoon at Point Stadium, and it did not disappoint.A one-hit gem of a game from the right-hander was plenty for the Grays (21-8), who cruised to a 7-0 victory over Assure Home Equity (4-25) in AAABA League action.Minarcin wasted no time getting to work on the mound, striking out the first four batters that Assure sent to the plate. Minarcin finished the game with 11 strikeouts and allowed only two base runners - one hit - in the complete-game win.I had a lot of pop on the ball when I came out,” Minarcin said.“I hadn’t thrown in a while and was able to throw my fastball by some people. My curveball and off speed stuff worked pretty good. He came out and had good velocity on his fastball and kept them off balance with his breaking pitches. Johnstown third baseman Brandon DePhillips led off with a bang, sending an Adam Jones pitch deep down the left field line for a ground-rule double.
