Hank is winner over GiardelloDETROIT (UPI)-Henry Hank today had assurance his fragile hands, which helped drop him from middleweight contention, were in good condition after testing them on the battered face of Joey GiardelloHank won a unanimous 10-round decision over Giardello Monday night in the first boxing show in Detroit’s new $18 million Conven-fon Arena, where promoter Max Handler hopes to bring big-time boxing back to the Motor City.Handler drew a surprising 6.000 persons into the arena. They saw an exciting fight, as Hank, using his overhand right like a hatchet, hurt Giardello in almost every round, opened cuts over and under his right eye. put a mouse under his left eye and bloodied his nose.Hank, dropped from the rankings because of the injured hands and two losses to Hank Casey, now has a 47-13-2 record, with 34 knockouts. Giardello, eighth ranking middleweight, now has lost to Hank and Terry Downes of England in his last two fights and has a 86-22-6 record.
