The Directors of the Canton Athletic Club Have Decided to Make Extensive Improvements atAthletic Park—John Rommel Elected President.The directors of tlie Canton Ath letic (.'Itih company held an important meeting in the company’s rooms in the Schario block last uigiit. John Rommel was elected president to succeed George Hammond, who resigned some time ago; while L» P. I. Yost was elected vice president. Wm. B. Gschwend was elected director to fib the vacancy left by Mr. Hammond.Football prospects for the coming season were talked over and it was decided to sell the remaining $5000 worth of stock in the association, the money to be used for football pur poses. The directors will call on citizens during the coming week and it this stock is sold Canton will have a football team. If not, this city will not be represented on the football map next fall. The directors have received propositions from ‘ Bloudy* Wallace, a member ol last year’s Canton team and from one of the best, football coaches in the United States, both offering to put a ftrst-ciass team in Canton. If games are played this fall between Canton and Massillon it has already been agreed between the managements of the two teams that the first game is to be played in Can ton and the second in Massillon on Thanksgiving day.It was also decided by the directors to remodel the grand stand at Athletic park. Opera chairs will be placed In the stand and private boxes will be erected and it is expected that when the new' stand will be completed itwill hold nearly two thousand, which is eleven hundred more than its pres ent capacity. Besides this a press bok, and dressing rooms will he built. Several of the directors will go to Akronnext Saturday to inspect the new grand stand recently built by the man age in ent of the Akron O. and P. league team. This stand is one or the most modern ar1 commodious stands in this section of the country.The new stand will extend irom the eastern end of the present stand tothe gate and box office beside tlu bleachers.
