Salisbury Falls To All-Stars' Pitching PowerSpecial To The EnterpriseSALISBURY — The Westein Carolinas League All-Stars proved last night that if all the right eggs are put in one basket, everything will turn out all right.The All-Stars had the right pitchers picked for their game and they turned in a three-hitter and knocked off Salisbury 3-1.---Four of the five pitchers used by manager Clyde Suke-forth didn’t allow a single hit.It was the sixth inning before Salisbury tapped Felix Roque of Rock Hill for all three safeties and scored its only run of the evening. Roque, who pitched from the fourth through the sixth, still came out the winning hurler.Salisbury, first - half pennant winner in the WCL, hosted the contest before 1,131 fans.Except for the fourth and sixth innings, when the All-Stars pushed across their runs the pitchers held the spotlight. Together, Barry Lersch, Roque, Harold Clem, Dick Sommer and Dick Selma fanned 14 Salisbury batters. They walked three. Lersch and Roque each fanned five men apiece in three innings of work.Larry Mason started and went six innings for Salisbury. He gave up seven hits and was charged with the three runs.The AH-Stars scored first in the fourth when Roy Foster and Mel Patton, both of Gastonia, hit singles. A throwing error on Patton’s hit by Salisbury rightfielder Larry Bingham allowed Foster to score.Patton later had a chance to score on a wild pitch, but he was tossed out at the plate.The Stars added two more in tiie sixth. Roque led off with a walk and took second on an infield out. Bobby Bonds of Lexington singled Roque home. Bob Robertson of Gastonia doubled, scoring BondsSalisbury scored its run in the last of the sixth when pinch hitter Curt Fontenot singled for the first home hit of the contest.
