Donnie Beard’s three-run first inning single touched off a four- run uprising and helped carry Optimist to an 85 victory over Potomac Edison in a Colt League game Thursday night. Beard, who also delivered a jaun-practicing double during Op timist’s second four-run explo jsion in the fourth, rapped his long first inning base hit for right field off loser Dave Mc Elroy. Ronnie Shoemaker started it, with a single then, after Mc Elroy walked Greg Eversole and Marty Sauble, Beard lined his clutch hit, Potomac Edison grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first frame off Mike Rohrer as Barry Jones singled and scored on Jerry Spessard’s base hit. Spessard then raced across the plate on a fielder's choice. Beard led the Optimist attack with a double and single while Shoemaker added two singles. Spessard paced the Potomac Edison offense with two singles and a pair of runs batted in. Williamsport meets Fairchild this evening. Pot.
