John W. DickersonJohn W. Dickerson, 74, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.He was born Jan. 25, 1927, atMeade, the son of Frederick and Pearl (Henry) Dickerson. He graduated from Meade High School in 1945,from The University of Kansas in 1949 and from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley in 1952.Mr. Dickerson was a teacher and coach at Burlington, Colo., and at Goodland before moving to Garden City in 1952. He taught at Garden City High School and served as head football coach from 1952 until 1967. He later served as assistant superintendent of Garden City schools and assistant to the president at Garden City Community College.He was a member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, served on the vestry of the church, belonged to Southwind Country Club, was a past exalted ruler of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and was an organizer of the University of Kansas Golf Tournament in Garden City He served as president of the Kansas Coaches Association, Garden City Rotary Club, Kansas Association of Community College Business Officials and the Kansas Association of Educational Negotiators. He enjoyed traveling and playing golf.On Aug. 20, 1950, he married Natalie Spasovich at Chicago. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Laurie Holmes, Dexter; a son, Michael Dickerson, Olathe; his mother, Meade; two brothers, Fred J. Dickerson, Eagle Rock, Mo., and James Dickerson, Fowler, 111.; a sister, Florence McMichael, Evansville, Ind.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Don Martin officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden CityVisitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City Memorials are suggested to the church, Emmaus House or Garden City Community College Endowment Association, all in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.Dickerson
