A week from now, the 1990 Western Canada Summer Games will officially open in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Games will be the biggest sports event to happen in Winnipeg since the 1967 Pan Am Games. Over 3,000 athletes from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and North West Territories will be competing over the nine days of the Games.A number of things make the 1990 Western Canada Summer Games unique. For the first time, Royalty will be involved in the Games. His Royal highness, The Prince Edward will officially open the Games at the spectacular Opening Ceremonies at The Forks at 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 6, following the River Parade which begins at 6:00 p.m.
