' Twenty-six enthusiastic bicyclers en-iered a race from Indianapolis to Mat-ihews, Sunday, at 7 a. m. All but six Iropped out at various points before reaching Muncie. Nine miles out of Mun-:ie five more gave up, leaving a colored ioy named Major Taylor to work for the jrizo alono. Taylor pluckily stuck to the lask and reached Matthews in 8 hours ind 20 minutes after starting. The roads were very muddy and at some points ivater rose to the sprocket wheels. A prize of a town lot, valued at 1125, had poen offered to tho first to arrive. Taylor vfll receive a deed for tho lot. A cash prize of $25 to the second arrival had also oeen offered, but there was no claimant. Taylor was badly used up, but after a bath and rest was able to return to India-aapolis apparently uninjured.
