SommerBack OnBeamAsHiWinThomasville To PlayAt Lexington TonightLEXINGTONDick Sommer, the tall Thomasville righthander who went like a house afire at the beginning of the season and tapered off at mid-year, appears to be back on the beam.And Manager Ralph Rowe of the Hi-Toms couldn’t have received much better news as the Tomsprepared to invade Lexington tonight for the second naif of the current two-game series.no - hitterSommer had a going for six innings last nightat Finch Field but finally hadfor a 4-1 victoryto settle tor a over Lexington’s Giants.He weakened to allow thefirst two of four giant hits, and that’s when they touched him for their lone run. In the other eight frames he worked, he had the visitors pretty much under control,while fanning 10 and walking just two.THE HI TOMS,meanwhile,in thebunched all their runs^^^H middle frames in picking up I their second straight victory.Starter George Shoemaker was the starting and losinghurler, giving up three of the four Hi-Tom runs. Lefty Mel Cassio came on in the fifth, was touched for one marker, and Garcia Parra finished up I the Final three frames, andheld the Toms scoreless.The Hi-Toms picked up their first run in the fourth. Rich Ashcroft dropped a looping liner into right field.Bonds tried for a shoestring catch, and the ball got pasthim for a triple. Terry Dooley walked to open the frame and moved to second when Shoemaker threw wildat first in a pickoff attempt Steve Free and Sommer fliedout, but John Livingston beat out an infield hit to detp short, and Dooley moved to third. Another wild pitch by Shoemaker scored Dooley and moved Livingston all the waythird bast.
