Temporary Chairman; Mrs. Philip MeGinnoss, Co-chair-nan: Mrs. Samuel Carter, Record-ng Secretary and Mr. H. 11. Rob-nson, Corresponding Secretary.These officers were selected to he the committee to go before the County Board of Education with he request to open all schools.Representatives present wereasked to give a report on progress nade in organizing their committee's at the next meeting which will be held on duly 2/. Meeting dace to b«' announced later.Members from various Aiken ounty communities told of needs for recreational activities.Mr. W. (\ Lewis reported on the planning for colored recreation, which will include two baseball teams, The Midgets and I he Mites; a canteen for teen-agers;camping. supervised Karnes, andthe teaching of swimming and reading.Mr. bale B. Purcell stated that his group is tied in with a camp in North Augusta for a ten-week period, and also father and sonramping-out projects.Mr. H. K. McGowan. Jackson, discussed a Bed (. ross swimming nrogram. classes for girls in craft-work. three teams of softball for teenage girls, a junior baseball team, a school social once a week with square and round dancing in the lunch room, ping pong anahorseshoesMr. Chester Cromwell, directorof Gregg Park Civic Center.Granit*n ille Recreation, stated he would be glad to assist any of the om muni ties with their programsior the summerMr. Wm. B. Schaeffer. N Augusta reported that the North Augusta Garden Club and Jaycees are endeavoring to get money to build ;i recereation center.Mr W. It Sheehan reported bat th'1 North Augusta Garden r’lub and Jayeoes are endeavoring o get mones to build a recreationIthat the city of Aiken now has j nine men’s softball teams, four little league baseball teams tor boys age fl to 12; four pony leagues for boys age 13 to 14 years, and a teen-age canteen operatedat the Jaycce Hut.Mrs. Josie Hazel made the report for the YWCA recreation activities which include three programs in New EDonton, toui in Aiken, one in Williston. one day camp in Barnwell. Ninety-three persons are registered for YWCA swimming classes tor adults overthe entire area.Mr. A verill. Red (/ross WateiSafety chairman, reported that 500 children in five areas are enrolled in sponsored swimmingclasses, and that this progiam will continue for six more weeks.In attendance at the meeting were the following leaders in this endeavor: drover F. lyner.
