ALGONA BEATS MASON CITYAmbitious Team-from the, East Is No Match for Locals.Brownies Take a Great Game from Sioux Oity-—Flandreau Indians to Flay Here Friday.The Brownies put a decided crnnp in Mason City’s newly won reputation in the two games at the fair grounds last week, and incidentally showed that the independent teams of the state won’t win many games from Algona this season. Mason City came totown flushed with victories over Fort( ✓Dodge and Webster City and went away thoroughly beaten and disorganized.Friday’s game was a rough and tumble affair characterized by hard hitting, brilliant bits of fielding and awful errors, and there was not a dull moment from the beginning until the locals won out in the last half of the ninth by a score of 12 to 11.. Jones started in to pitch for Algona, but he had absolutely no control of the ball and was replaced by Davis at the start of the fourth,with Mason leading 6 to 2, and looking sure victors. But Davis put an abrupt stop to the run getting, and his team mates forged to the front in the sixth. From this time till the end the lead see-sawed and the fans were always on the anxious seat. The finish was stirring. With the score 11 to 10 in favor of Mason City Talbert, the first man up in the ninth, beat out a bunt an eyelash by a desperate slide. Then Willis Jones rolled a little.one towards first, and he, too, was saved by a long dive for the bag. While pandemonium reigned Moore came up and hit one way over left field, scoring the two runs necessary to win. Mason City was never in the hunt, erring grievously throughout.
